The definition of the word “widow” is one whose spouse dies and as a result of this, she loses the father of her children, her soulmate, financial support, and the guardian of her home. As a result of this loss, a widow is now supposed to take full responsibility for her role as a single parent and look after her children. This leads to her suffering both emotionally and psychologically and plays a big part in her mental health. The rights of women are well documented in the Quran and the Hadith.

Helping the widows is a Jihad

Abu Haraira radi Allah anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said, “One who lends effort to the widows and the poor is like one waging Jihad in the way of Allah, or one who regularly prays at night and fasts during the day”.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Humanity Care Relief receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

Urgent Appeal – Sponsor Widows In Refugee Camps

There are many widows with children living in refugee camps with no support, no protection, and very little to eat. They are the most vulnerable displaced refugees. They have no breadwinner, no male relatives in most cases, they simply roam from camp to camp looking for shelter and food.

What Humanity Care Relief is doing for the Muslim Widows?

We have 50 widows that need to be sponsored. For just £30 a month, you can sponsor a widow and her children. This £30 will provide a food parcel and clean water each month for them.

You will be provided with a certificate of sponsorship and quarterly reports on how the widow and her children are doing. You will also have the option to donate whenever you wish. For example, during Ramadan and Eid you are welcome to send more donations.

The prophet said: “The one who takes care of a widow or a poor person is like a ‘Mujahid’ fighting in the way of Allah…” so don’t miss out on this opportunity.

The Reward For The Patient Widowed Mother

All around the world, there is an all-time high for single-mother households. According to stats, around 51% of the single-mother families, today are either divorced, separated, and widowed. In many cases, this is the result of unjust wars, chronic illness and other causes. The beauty of Islam is that every aspect of life has been addressed and as a result of this men have to play a key role in providing for their life partner. However, a single mother that has a lot of responsibility placed on her shoulders must maintain her well-being by putting her full trust in Allah (swt).

Financial Rights of a Widow in Islam

Islam has given the financial rights to the widow. The evidence of widows’ financial rights is mentioned in Surah an-Nisa. If the husband and wife do not have children then one-fourth of her husband’s wealth (which he leaves behind), is the right of his wife. If, on the other hand, they have descendants then in that case it would be the eighth part of the entire wealth.

Allah says in the Quran:

In that which your wives leave, your share is a half if they have no child; but if they leave a child, you get a fourth of that which they leave after payment of legacies that they may have bequeathed or debts. In that which you leave, their (your wives) share is a fourth if you leave no child; but if you leave a child, they get an eighth of that which you leave after payment of legacies that you may have bequeathed or debts. If the man or woman whose inheritance is in question has left neither ascendants nor descendants but has left a brother or a sister, each one of the two gets a sixth; but if more than two, they share in a third, after payment of legacies he (or she) may have bequeathed or debts so that no loss is caused (to anyone). This is a Commandment from Allah; and Allah is Ever All-Knowing, Most-Forbearing.

Islam has given a Widow Freedom to live as she wishes after her husband’s Death

In Islam, there are no restrictions for a widow for getting married again. Following the death of her husband, it is required in Islam to wait for four months and ten days before she embarks on moving on with her life, such as marrying again. It is a sunnah in Islam to accept a widow into your life, as Prophet Muhammad peace, and blessings be upon him showed us by marrying Khadijah radi Allah anha.

Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah:

And those of you who die and leave wives behind them, they (the wives) shall wait (as regards their marriage) for four months and ten days, then when they have fulfilled their term, there is no sin on you if they (the wives) dispose of themselves in a just and honourable manner (i.e. they can marry). And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do.

al-Quran (2:234)

Islam has encouraged widows to marry again. A widow does not lose the right to live her life after her husband’s death. Instead, she can embark on her goals and get married again, if she wishes.
